Have you found a place to live yet?
Well, no. And we’re not going to find a place until we get there.
Yes, that is freaking me out.
I’m fine with some level of uncertainty but this is a huge level of uncertainty made greater by having kids and meeting their needs.
The whole Kailua-Kona area has about 31,000 people while Kailua proper seems to have around 10,000. Its a small, small town.
Many of the vacant houses are used as vacation rentals and not long-term rentals.
All this to say, the inventory of houses to rent long term is incredibly small. And of those, finding something furnished with at least 3 bedrooms is going to be very difficult. And then hopefully its not a dump AND we can afford it.
Most rental properties open up on short notice, so we won’t have any idea of what’s available in advance either.
So who knows what we’re going to end up with and how long it’ll take to find something that works.
I know it sounds silly but this has been a huge source of stress for me. It shouldn’t be as important as it is and I shouldn’t be worried about something that is largely out of my control.
Luckily, now that our house is sold and our move date is getting closer, I’m not nearly as stressed about it. And I know something is going to work out so I don’t think about it nearly that much anymore.
But to say I want to get there and get settled into some place, is an understatement. I think then I can finally breathe.
